The Impact of Climate Change on Coastal Ecosystems

Our NGO’s E-Waste Collection Camp is a crucial initiative aimed at addressing one of the fastest-growing yet least understood environmental threats in India — electronic waste. With the rapid rise in technology usage, people are constantly upgrading their gadgets — from phones and laptops to televisions and appliances. But very few are aware of what happens to these electronic items after they are discarded. Most often, old electronics are either thrown in household garbage, burned, or left unused in homes — causing serious soil, air, and water pollution due to their toxic components like lead, mercury, cadmium, and plastic. Recognizing this gap in awareness and responsible disposal, our NGO organizes dedicated E-Waste Collection Camps in urban colonies, schools, offices, and rural markets to help people understand the importance of safe e-waste management and provide a convenient, eco-friendly solution for disposal.
In these camps, we set up easy-to-access collection points where individuals can drop off their old phones, chargers, batteries, laptops, keyboards, small appliances, and other unusable electronics. Our trained volunteers guide the participants about which items qualify as e-waste and why not recycling them properly can harm both health and the environment. Through colorful banners, handouts, and interactive sessions, we educate the public on how informal recycling methods — like burning or breaking electronics in open air — release toxic gases and heavy metals into the environment, affecting not just nature but also the people handling them, especially children and laborers in unorganized sectors.
We also conduct short awareness talks and digital presentations during the camp, explaining how proper recycling of e-waste saves natural resources, prevents pollution, and even allows materials like copper, gold, and plastic to be reused. Our team works in partnership with government-authorized e-waste recyclers, ensuring that every item collected is sent to a certified facility for safe dismantling and eco-friendly processing. Participants are given thank you cards, digital appreciation certificates, and sometimes small tokens like cloth bags or eco-pens to appreciate their contribution toward a cleaner environment.
What makes this camp unique is its community engagement approach — we encourage schools to run inter-house collection drives, offices to conduct “Clean Your Desk” e-waste weeks, and RWAs to promote door-to-door awareness. In many cases, children become the biggest motivators, bringing unused electronics from home and educating their parents. The impact is long-lasting: people not only dispose of their waste responsibly but also spread the message in their circle. So far, our E-Waste Camps have collected over 2,500 kg of electronic waste and prevented it from entering landfills or illegal recycling streams.
Through this initiative, we aim to build a culture of responsible digital consumption where people don’t just use gadgets — they also learn to dispose of them thoughtfully. The E-Waste Collection Camp is more than just a bin — it is a step toward sustainable living, cleaner cities, and a healthier planet.
